StarA special thank you to our learning gate family!
We want to take this opportunity to thank our Learning Gate Family (Parents, Teachers, Staff and Students) for another great year.   We are especially grateful to everyone who helped over the last few weeks to prepare the school campus for the Green Building ribbon cutting ceremony.  Parent volunteers stepped up and removed the partitions from Heron Hall, moved the 4th and 5th grade classrooms into the new Green Buildings, cleaned the new classrooms and Herron Hall, picked up trash around campus, watered the new plants, and helped to set up by directing traffic, greeting guests, and helping in the kitchen.  The event allowed us to showcase our accomplishments to the community, but we realize that we couldn't have done it without you.  Thank you all for your commitment to our school, and have a wonderful summer and we look forward to another successful year! ~~ Michele.

StarGreen Classroom Initiative

Our Green buildings are getting closer to completion. Currently the contractors are spraying the soy foam to encapsulate the building providing a chemical free alternative to standard insulation. The purpose of our buildings are to preserve natural resources while providing our students with a healthy environment to live and learn in.

The next phases should go quickly, drywall, painting, and creating our boardwalk. We've asked the Dad's Club for weekend help, if you'd like to assist on Saturday or Sunday please contact Rik Mathias at the email link below.

Please know that your children are doing great for the time being and it will be worth the wait once they are in their green buildings.

StarLearning Gate is even greener

Learning Gate Community School will be the first LEED rated Platninum rated Green School in the nation!!! Our environmental focus has motivated us to "Go Green" on our newest building project. We hope to showcase the positive benefits of an environmentally sustainable school within our community. There will be nine green modular classrooms totally approximately 8,000 sf. The buildings consist of recycled steel perimeter frames, Georgia Pacific SFI approved lumber, recycled stand and seam roof panels, and soy foam insulation. We are striving for a Zero Energy building using 25KW Solar Energy System to supplement TECO energy. To achieve water sustainability we are installing a living machine to process waste water by recycling it through the commodes. We will be using cisterns to capture rainwater, increasing water sustainability. We are all very excited about this project.

If your company would like to be involved in this Green partnership please contact Michele at (813)948-4190. Your Annual Giving funds may be earmarked for the Green Building as well.
