“Mathematics is everywhere and in ways great and small, our lives and the world are built on the foundation of mathematics.”
Gregory McColm, AP Mathematics, University of South Florida
We teach the foundations of math using several curriculums through an eclectic approach. By using the Sunshine State Standards as a guide for concepts and the FCAT Explorer as a guide for pacing we pull the best lessons from nature and published curriculums to give our students a sound foundation for the fundamentals of math. But math is so much more that just numbers and geometry. Math is “the science of patterns.” By extending our program into the natural world our students learn the mathematics of climate, the cosmos, biology, decision making and so much more. While applying math concepts throughout their day students become comfortable with math concepts and their applications.
Learning Gate’s middle school mathematics program prepares students for the “hardware store” of high school algebra. While continuing the strong emphasis on environmental studies, pre-algebra, algebra and 9th grade Honors Algebra is taught in grades 6-8.
