If we want children to flourish, to be truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.

Open Court Reading ©2002 ensures that every child receives the best reading instruction available. This structured program teaches children through a systematic and explicit scaffolding of skills that build upon each other. By taking into account the individual needs of students and providing them with practice and engaging reading materials, Open Court Reading ©2002 helps students become confident and successful readers.

Open Court has been our reading and language arts program for over 25 years.  Because it is a complete program there has never been a need to try something new.  Check out the latest research here.

The Learning Gate® Language Arts Curriculum is composed of a series of trade paperback literature at each grade level 3-8, based on the two biomes.  While reading a book selection as a class, the book selection becomes the textbook where the students learn basic skills such as vocabulary, writing, science and math around an environmental and/or social issue.

Continuing with the scaffolding approach begun in Open Court Reading ©2002, elementary and middle school Language Arts expands the skills and content with a strong focus on the environment.  A major literary focus is Florida with specific reference to its varied ecosystems.
