Ongoing community service projects

“It is one of the most beautiful compensations of life, that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself."
                                                                                                                                                    Ralph Waldo Emerson

Students learn the symbiotic relationships between their community and that of their natural environment by using local resources as well as participating in community service. They focus on learning in a team environment, which improves social and emotional intelligence as students learn to value diversity and individual strengths of others.

The students celebrate the holidays by giving to others.  Each grade level identifies a need in our community.  The need might be environmental, or involve an organization. It might involve donations of time, money, items, or both.  There is one element that all community service projects at Learning Gate must contain.  It is vital that the students see firsthand the results of their project.  Often times, food or money is collected for drives or such and students do not get to see what effect those contributions have on the very people that are being helped.  It makes quite an impact on our students when they get to see the full circle of their efforts.

Every year our community projects are numerous and varied but we do have some that we have been committed to for many years and are listed below.

  • Bay Grasses/Oyster Balls- Tampa Baywatch
  • Gardens for Classrooms- Headstart
  • Books From The Heart Program-The Heart of America Foundation
  • Joshua House-Children’s Home Society of Florida
  • Pencil Drive-Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools
  • Relay For Life-American Cancer Society
  • Students for Recycling-Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful.
