biomes

If we want children to flourish, to be truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.

Our school focuses on the two Biomes:  Forests the first half of the year and Oceans the second half. This allows our K-8 teachers  and students to study aspects of that biome while still following the Sunshine State Standards for each subject and the National Science Education Standards.  The teachers are encouraged to use environmental resources such as Project Learning Tree, Project WET, Project Wild, Audubon Adventures and Florida Scrub to name a few.  Textbooks, rote memorization, and teacher directed learning are minimal.

The students have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned by presenting Biome Celebrations several times throughout the school year.  Parents are invited and students’ presentations take on many creative forms.  Plays, original songs, interpretative dance, art work, displays and much more can be enjoyed while learning takes place among our students, parents, and visitors during these celebrations.
